This close-up aerial video presents the one-of-a-kind water tower constructed in 1927. The tower is a physical icon to locals and a landmark to most people in the Tampa Bay area. Built in a similar style and era as the nearby Sulpher Springs arcade, it was constructed to provide adequate water pressure for area hotels, homes, and businesses. Growth in the Sulpher Springs area was slow and technology eventually rendered the tower obsolete. Today, the arcade is gone as is the Tower Drive-in theater that once sprawled along the Hillsborough River just to the east of the tower. This tower and the old Sulpher Springs Pool are all that is left of the original town's structures.
