Using tea bags more than once is a great way to cut your tea costs in half and help save all of the resources that went into producing it. Or take your used tea bags to the next level and make tea tea with a simple blend of your favorite spices, like in today's recipe.

Chai tea is a delicious way to recycle used tea bags and breathe new life into a product that is being wasted. If you plan to make tea more than once a day, reserve the bowl of leaves and spices and reuse it. Once done, the tea leaves (minus any plastic tea bag material) are well converted into compost, adding nitrogen to the soil.

Another fun way to reuse tea bags is to make "drunk prunes". Put a handful of prunes and four used tea bags (Earl Gray of preference) in a bowl, cover with boiling water and leave for an hour. Strain it (save the liquid and keep it in the refrigerator to drink it as a sweetened iced tea), then put the prunes in a clean bowl, cover it with brandy and leave it overnight. Enjoy with small pancakes or with dessert or cheese and a cup of tea.
