Start with a fast way to test for air leaks on a chain saw, in this case a Husqvarna 576xp. The "Brake Clean" spray can test. Brake clean does not combust so when introduced into the two stroke crank case, and drawn into the combustion chamber will stop a saw.. THEN make a transition into the 48mm project saw buy going thru the process of installing a crank shaft into chain saw cases. This one is a Jonsered 2165, but ANY Husqvarna 372 class saw is the same,

Some basics about the entire Husqvarna 372 class of saw and ALL of the derivatives. That includes the 48mm closed port versions (365 Special & Jonsered cs2065 & cs2165 ). But also the "standard" 50mm versions, 372xp, 2071,2171 "original editions", and the later 372xp, Jonsered 2166 & 2172 50mm X-torq versions. And last but not least the Original edition 372xpw with the 51.5mm cylinder. During this seven part series I will introduce and discuss all four of those cylinder designs and iterations. For the purpose of the series, Bob & I decided we would do warmed up versions of the much maligned 48mm cylinder. It's mistakenly not desired because it is smaller than the 372's ( 2171/72's) and is designed to run at a lower RPM. So not the place folks who want the fastest saw at a GTG will start when building a saw. BUT there are a lot of folks who aren't as interested in fast cookie cutting, but instead need a saw that's easy to live with and easy on the old joints and bones. The is a saw build for the rest of us more concerned with day to day life with a saw and being productive for a longer time.... a powerful enough build to be fun, but has the added benefits of being a little lighter, less rotational mass, and less vibration. Makes a long day in the woods a bit more fun. THAT's what this saw build is about.
