With no end in sight to the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic in the US, it's no surprise that myths about the virus abound.
According to Business Insider, one common myth is that wearing a mask is dangerous because you'll get carbon dioxide poisoning.
But epidemiology professor Stephen Morse says any CO2 the wearer exhales passes through the mask, just like oxygen, and doesn't build up.
After all, healthcare workers wear masks for hours on end, which is proof that mask-wearing does not cause carbon dioxide poisoning or toxicity.
Furthermore, blood oxygen levels remain perfectly normal when wearing a mask, provided the wearer is healthy.
