ERIE BEACH: CANADA'S ATLANTIC CITY
Back in the late 1800's, Erie Beach in Fort Erie, Canada was the Atlantic City of North America. The famous amusement park and casino was built on the historical area where much of the War of 1812 was fought between the Americans and the British. It was also an area that featured areas associated to the Underground Railroad. Erie Beach boasted the largest freshwater swimming pool in the world, and at one point the famous Olympic swimmer, and the sensational actor Johnny Weismuller, who would later star as 'Tarzan', had his first lifeguard job at the beach. Another historical fact, Josiah Henson settled in Erie Beach back in the day, and would later become a character in the famous book Uncle Tom's Cabin. Step back into the past and revisit the beach, the rides and the memories of Canada's 'Atlantic City'.
