Willie de Klerk, first black photographer at the Argus, died at the age of 81 on Sunday. He was a seasoned newspaper photographer and a mentor to many up-and-coming young photojournalists in the 1970's and 1980's during the height of Apartheid. Ian Landsberg paid tribute to this visual storyteller par excellance at his funeral and called on the authorities and or private funders to finance a book or even a movie to preserve the the legacy of this unsung hero and doyen of photojpournalism of the Western Cape.
