Cat goes crazy and gets high on cat nip

Kramer is a 13 year old domestic cat adopted from a shelter when he was a year old. He is a goofy cat and part of the family. When the owners get out the container containing the cat nip, he knows exactly what it is and comes running. Then freaks out trying to get it out of their hands.
The leaves and stems of the catnip plant contain an oil called "nepetalactone." When cats smell nepetalactone, it stimulates special receptors that sense chemicals called "pheromones."
The result is a kind of chemical reaction that gives the cat a sense of euphoria or overwhelming happiness. The effect has been compared to that of a hallucinogenic drug on humans. Kramer goes kinda nuts for a little while, then he becomes mellow and lazy. Its pretty comical.
