LeRay (AB0PV) - "No Coders and Cracker Jack Generals"
I love these guys!! LeRay, you're the man !!
You too JR !!
I am KE0EYH, and I listen to these guys on 7.218 as much as I can. I played this video for my Wife Jan KE0FEQ and she liked it as much as I did! It's posted on the Clay Center Ham Clubs Facebook page at
www.fb.ks0cly.com or Clubs website at www.ks0cly.com
Check it out to see more pictures of this radio and to learn more about our local Ham Radio Club
(About this radio) The radio I am using in this video is a Kenwood TS 130S that was given to me. It had been unloved, abused, and left behind. When I got it 3 days ago it would receive ok but transmit power would drop off to under 10 watts on all but 20 & 40 meters, and the volume wouldn't turn down.
I downloaded the service and owners manuals. Searched the internet for known transmit power problems. It was disappointing that there wasn't more info available...
I took it apart, cleaned, and re-seated every electrical connector I could find. That fixed the volume issue!
After reading a lot of articles and posts about this radio I stumbled across a post where someone had bought an identical radio that had been set up for QRP and he wanted to turn the transmit power back up. In the post it mentioned 3 pots (Variable Resistors) under the top cover that would adjust the output power.
I searched the manual and sure enough those pots are shown with a description of adjusting them for output. I marked there original location with a sharpie and gently turned them. 1 was for 10 meters and another one was for all the other bands. It worked, and so far this old radio hasn't dropped in power !!
I also replaced the meter and dial lights. Oh and Shawn Stewart (KC0TQZ) was kind enough to lend me a knob for the VFO (thank you Shawn!). I had to makeshift a way to secure the power wires to the chassis, and repair the fan connector on the back of the radio. Special thanks to Dave Every (KD7QAS) for helping me wire up a cobra mic for this Kenwood TS-130S
