Railroad Riff

Railroad Riff is based on a D-G-A7 guitar “lick” that I heard on a David Bromberg album. I tried to learn the “lick” by listening to the song – but I just could not see how to play it. A short while later, I went to a Randy Newman concert where Bromberg was the opening act. At one point in Bromberg’s performance he walked up to the front center of the stage and played a song that had the guitar “lick”. Fortunately, my seat was close enough to the front of the stage so I could watch how he “pulled apart” the D major chord. After seeing how he played it (and with a lot of practice) I was able to play a version that is pretty close.

Why Railroad? There was a verse in the song about a train – seems to fit the Riff

Guitar Notes: Low “E” tuned to “D”. For TE fans there is a bit of a “Boom Chick” thing going on.
