Extremely close encounter with a giant black bear

Had yet another close encounter with bears while guiding yesterday!! This big sow had three adult cubs still with her, and they all came within ten yards of the blow down where we were hiding out for squirrels! This is the third time I’ve been within 30 yards of a bear in the past week and a half. Is the universe trying to tell me something? They are such magnificent animals. Their black coats are remarkably beautiful and their presence is magical. It definitely makes me pause to think of hunting them, even though I know it’s necessary that we do in order to keep them from taking over the suburbs. These bears were seen only a mile from dense subdivisions.
