Most cuts and scrapes are minor and do not require a doctor visit. For these minor abrasions, herbs can be used externally in compresses, gels, or salves.
The anti-bacterial properties of the herbs will help the cuts heal faster and help keep them from becoming infected.
Calendula - Calendula has long been known to have healing properties.
It is often the main ingredient in herbal salves. It promotes the growth of new skin and also helps inhibit bleeding. Used as a cream or salve it is readily available at natural or herbal stores.
Aloe - The soothing properties of aloe make it help with the healing process. It can be used on cuts and scrapes to help promote healing and to aid in pain relief. Aloe can be found in many over the counter brands at your local drug store. Be sure to get gel that has a high percentage of aloe as it works best in its pure state.
Comfrey - Comfrey is a healing herb that is also found in many prepared creams or salves. You can also make a compress by wetting dried comfrey and placing it in a clean cloth. Apply the compress by holding it onto the affected area.
