Isla Mujeres is a Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea, 13 kilometers(8 miles) off the coast from Cancún. Isla Mejures is a popular vacation destination known for beautiful beaches such as northern Playa Norte, resort hotels and for snorkeling and scuba diving on the surrounding coral reefs. At Punta Sur, the southern tip, there's a lighthouse, the remains of a Mayan temple and a sanctuary for sea turtles. The north side of the island is also the windward side which brings larger waves than on the southern side of the island. Surfing and body boarding is one fun activity the north side offers with its larger waves. The south side of the island offers up calm waters with amazing beaches. Visiting the island during their honeymoon, the couple had stopped for lunch at a small restaurant on the south side of the island near the turtle refuge. Being the only ones in the restaurant that day, one iguana wanted to see if they had anything appetizing for lunch so he came in very close. Being mainly herbivores, the iguana mostly eat flowers and berries. Specifically, they are folivores (an animal that feeds on leaves). In the wild, they feed almost entirely on the leaves of trees and vines, plus some fruits or flowers. Offering this little guy a snack of tortilla shell, which is mainly flower and water, he surely seemed to enjoy the snack. As you can see from the caution the iguana shows, he is definitely not tame and is surely a wild animal. Adorable to see up close to interact with. One must always be careful as these creatures can bite with quite a force.
