Cuomo urges Congress to 'act smartly' on stimulus to avoid massive state cuts
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo New York State is appealing to Congress to 'act smartly' to fund states like his as yet another financial stimulus package was introduced Tuesday on Capitol Hill.
“It has to be a smart piece of legislation,” Cuomo said during his daily press briefing.
Cuomo said that a funding bill is needed that not only helps average citizens make ends meet, but also compensates state and local governments for their efforts to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
That bill, the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act, was introduced into the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
“Hospitals are the nurses and doctors who just got us through this, and everyone celebrates them as heroes,” Cuomo said. “If we can’t fund the state, that’s who we’re hurting.”
