Dachshund is a German word meaning “badger dog” - "Dach" means badger and "hund" means dog - primarily groomed to hunt badgers in the wild.
With their slender long torso, dachshunds have the lung capacity, stamina shape and size to become great badger hunting dogs. It’s said that Dachshunds can track a scent that is more than a week old! So they were also commonly used for rabbit, fox and deer hunting in addition to badgers.
