Deaths from the novel coronavirus COVID-19 epidemic in Italy jumped by 474 on Saturday.
According to Reuters, Saturday's fatalities were at the highest number since April 21st.
The day before, Italy's Civil Protection Agency reported a death toll of 269.
Italy has roughly 60 million inhabitants. The agency said 1.430 million people had been tested for the virus against 1.399 million the day before.
The total death toll since the outbreak debuted in Italy Feb. 21st now stands at 28,710.
That's the second highest in the world, after that of the United States.
