President Donald Trump Wednesday announces a temporary closure of the U.S. northern border with Canada in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
"The president, as you all are aware, also announced today, by mutual consent, the northern border with Canada will be closed to non-essential travel," Vice President Mike Pence said in a White House briefing on the coronavirus, adding it does not include essential travel and transit of goods.
Trump said essential travel would include medical-related trips. He also told reporters that was not shutting down the U.S.-Mexico border but would initiate "certain provisions that will allow the [U.S.] great latitude as to what we do."
