Millennials may be at a higher risk for catching coronavirus

The coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force says millennials could suffer severe health risks from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus.
“There are concerning reports coming out of France and Italy about some young people getting seriously ill, and very seriously ill in the ICUs,” said Dr. Deborah Birx in a press conference Wednesday.
She said millennials, meaning Americans born roughly between 1980 and 2000, are ones who are most likely to be out and about, while also being the least symptomatic.
Health officials worldwide may have minimized the risk to young people compared to the elderly. Children are known to get infected by the virus, but overall experience much milder symptoms than older adults.
Even if only a fraction of younger people get severe infections, if many of them contract the virus overall, that can lead to a notable number of severe cases, Birx said.
“There may be a disproportional number of infections among that group, and so even if it’s a rare occurrence, it may be seen more frequently in that group and be evident now,” she said.
