Dr. Birx calls for 'highly responsible behavior' as guidelines change
Dr. Deborah Birx, White House coronavirus response coordinator, repeated her urge for Americans to take social distancing seriously as new guidelines are released that would potentially lead to more relaxed social distancing based on geographic risk factors for the novel coronavirus.
"Part of this will be the need for highly responsible behavior between counties," she said at a briefing Thursday at the White House. Expanded testing capabilities will help classify counties around the country that pose a greater or lesser risks of people being exposed to the virus, she said.
In a letter earlier today, Trump said his administration will publish the guidelines and that they’ll help state and local policymakers make decisions about "maintaining, increasing, or relaxing social distancing and other mitigation measures they have put in place,” according to Fox News.
Birx said that doesn't mean Americans should stop adhering to the guidelines once the country starts resuming normal life.
"I think that this will be critical for our future as we work to really understand where the virus is and where it isn't in real time."
