Retail has come to a standstill amid the coronavirus pandemic, shredding bottom lines of chains that may have been struggling even before the crisis.
With hundreds of thousands of stores closed nationwide, dozens of retailers have been forced to furlough workers as shelter-in-place measures continue indefinitely.
More than 100 retailers have closed storefronts, and dozens more have limited hours and partial closures.
Companies that have gone through bankruptcy proceedings, such as Sears, are on the shakiest ground, and retailers with high debt will have a harder time bouncing back from the impact of the virus and any potential recession, say experts.
