Social experiment: Would you help an abandoned child?
MattTV had Ana go up to people and tell them she was abandoned to see if they would help. The results were shocking!
To help or not to help? It is a dilemma even for someone who is generous and always willing to volunteer a helping hand. Why? Let’s discuss.
In this video is a social experiment where Ana went on asking people if they could help her because her parents abandoned her. Her acting is great that anyone talking to her would believe that indeed she was abandoned. She was quick and spontaneous in answering questions asked by the people she approached. In one instance, someone asked her if she has phone with her which she said no and the next question was whether she remembers her parents’ phone number. It is a clever question. Ana was smart to respond that they kept moving that is why she cannot memorize their phone numbers. The guy gave her some suggestions on what to do.
One suggestion that was common was for Ana to contact the police. A couple, at the start of the video, were so kind to accompany her to the nearest police station. This move must be the cleverest action to do when approached by someone in similar situations. One question that may pop up is: Why do people hesitate to extent direct help by offering immediate shelter and food to the child? The child was abandoned and needs shelter and basic necessities. Experience teaches that there are instances when people with evil soul use the innocent face of a child to perpetuate crime. An example for this is the modus operandi where a child is spotted crying in a populated street and when a Good Samaritan approaches, the child would say that he or she is abandoned or got lost. Then the child would be able to mention where she lives. When the generous person accompanies the child to the place mentioned, he risks himself to be the victim of crimes such as theft, robbery or worst – homicide.
Human beings are by nature good. Many have the heart to help whenever they could. Nonetheless, the dilemma arises because of situations as illustrated above. To help is noble but risking one’s limbs and properties is real when volunteering help to strangers. It is a sad truth that there are many homeless kids on the streets, abandoned to face harsh life. Who is responsible to take care of their welfare? While everyone is encouraged to take part in the solution of this problem, not everyone is capable and competent to take direct participation in caring for these kids. This calls for better programs and more organized groups that cater to the welfare of children. With proper training and facilities, children who are abandoned will be given the help they need.
The children are our future. May all children find a wholesome home.
