The U.S. government may hit France with punitive duties of up to 100 percent on $2.4 billion in imports. According to Reuters, this would include Champagne, handbags, cheese and other products. The announcement came after concluding that France’s new digital services tax would hurt U.S. tech companies. The U.S. Trade Representative’s office said the French tax was “inconsistent with prevailing principles of international tax policy.
