Torn Space Theatre production features diverse group of students
They are students at Lafayette International High School and they are also actors in a new production opening soon at the Torn Space Theatre Company. The play titled 'Manmade Earth' is a joint production of Torn Space and 600 Highwaymen, a theatre company in New York City. Melisa Meola-Shanahan of Torn Space says the show is "Exciting, inspiring and keeping you on the edge of your seat." She adds "we had about sixty students audition throughout the city of Buffalo." Six of the eight roles in the play went to students at Lafayette International High School. Jeanvier Nkurunziza says that the experience has gotten him hooked on performing, adding "even though it's a lot of hard work, it's still fun being on stage, being noticed, yea it's cool." The play was just showcased at the Crossing The Line Festival in Brooklyn, NY. The students have been working on the piece for over a year and it will open for a limited run at the Torn Space Theatre November 23rd through December 1st. Tickets are available at the Torn Space Theatre website.
