Actors are once again on stage rehearsing 'Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird at the Kavinoky Theatre. For many of them it's their second shot at putting together the classic play on this stage in less than a year. In February they received a "cease and desist" order from the producers of the Broadway production of the show. That meant thousands of dollars lost in ticket sales as well as the cost of building and then tearing down the set. Executive/Artistic Director Lorraine O'Donnell says "I'm not ashamed to say I cried." The story hit the front page of the New York Times. Lorraine and director Kyle LoConti quickly made the decision to produce '1984' in place of the canceled production. Producer of the NY City production of 'Mockingbird', Scott Rudin called Lorraine afterwards and offered the production to the Kavinoky royalty free. "That saves us nearly eight thousand dollars in production costs." according to Lorraine. All's well that end well! The show opens November 8th and will run for eight weeks.
