Iconic eatery continues to serve up generous amounts of hospitality

In November Tim & Joyce Chrostowski celebrate four years as owners of what is one of Western New York's oldest restaurants, The North Star Tavern on Seneca Street in Elma. The place has been around a long time-a very long time-since 1831. The couple remodeled the tavern but there are still some original features including the bar. Behind the bar is the 1950's made in Buffalo, "Beerador". It's a fancy fridge for holding beer. Tim says "the company built them as blood banks and they evolved into beer coolers." On the menu, there are lots of freshly made items including steaks, chops, fish frys, flat bread pizzas and home made pierogi. They weren't sure that their home made polish foods would work on the menu but they have been pleasantly surprised. One thing Tim and Joyce didn't bargain for was all the friendships they would form with their customers. Joyce says "I thought I'm just going to cook food and run a restaurant.
