Family panics when whales suddlenly apear whilst we are sailing with our fishing rod out and they are heading straight for the fishing rod.

We are a family of five with the grand parents and a sausage dog called Winnie from England having a sailing trip around the med, after years of planning & taking our three children out of school and teaching them aboard our sailing yacht. On this day we were having a relaxing sail from Ibiza back to mainland Spain with the fishing rod out, we had been very unlucky and haven't caught a fish yet. So we were not expecting to nearly catch a whale! We think they were two pilot whales, they were heading straight towards our fishing rod which had a big lure on it. We were So happy & suprised to see such amazing creatures but at the same time panicking trying to pull the fishing rod in quickly as it was out really far! We managed to pull it in and enjoyed watching these beautiful creatures in the distance for quite some time.
Pilot Whales are dark black in colour most of the time. Some of them are a dark grey. There are two species of the Pilot whale, but it is often very hard to tell them apart. They generally both get lumped into this basic category. One has a short fin while the other features one that is long. These whales are very large, and only the killer whale is bigger than they are.
Males are the largest with a length of up to 25 feet and they can weigh as much as three tons. The females only weigh about half of that and they can be up to 16 feet in length.
The Pilot Whale has quite a selection when it comes to the foods they eat. Their diet includes squid, octopus, herring, and various small fish. They tend to prefer the squid though so that is the primary food source if it is readily available for them. They eat about 70 pounds of food daily which is very little compared to other types of whales their size.
Our daughter does sailing videos of all our adventures on YouTube her channel is CassieStudios so pls check it out the 😊
