With new gun squad and stricter ordinances, Independence announces program to reduce gun violence

Police in Independence, Missouri, announced the “most comprehensive program to attack gun violence to date" during a city council study session Monday evening. The program's goal is to make the city safer and is in response to what the department calls a "huge" increase in gun-related crimes in the city including homicides, robberies and assaults.
