'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' And 'Lion King' Have Strong Box Office Start

Disney’s “The Lion King” might still reign supreme, but Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” certainly held its own. Quentin Tarantino’s R-rated ode to Hollywood’s golden age opened with $40 million from 3,659 North American theaters, says Reuters. The movie also scored an opening day record for Tarantino, amassing $16.8 million on Friday. "The Lion King" still held on to its top box office spot, raking in another $75.5 million.
