Scuba diver finds someone's functioning GoPro in Mexico

On a dive in a cenote in Mexico, this scuba diver looked down to see a glint of light reflecting off a GoPro camera. With hundreds of people swimming here every day, the camera could belong to anyone. Snorkelers and kayak paddlers flock to this beautiful freshwater river where they can enjoy a refreshing swim. The river is as deep as 30 feet in some passages and somebody dropping their camera from the surface would not be able to reach the bottom to get it. The camera was on an extendable pole and it rested on the bottom, partially hidden by a small outcropping of rock. Some silt had collected on top of the camera and it is possible that it had been there for several days.

The camera was in a protective housing and it was almost completely dry. Although the battery had run out, it worked properly once charged and left to thoroughly dry out inside the battery compartment.

The great mystery in a found GoPro is always finding the owner and a way to return it. Sometimes the footage on the SD memory card holds clues about the owner. In this case, very little had been recorded. The owner had made a brief video at the entrance to the cenote, or river, but it is impossible to determine whether anyone in the video was known to him or her. The footage also contained a brief clip of a little dog sporting a unique hat. On the video, a voice can be heard and it seems that the owner of the camera asked the dog's owner about the dog. In the exchange, enough information is given that the camera owner will likely remember the details, such as the name of the dog, and a few other facts. There is another video clip that could be described by the camera owner.

The scuba diver who found the GoPro would like to speak with the owner about the camera so that he may return it. Obviously, the camera owner will be asked a few questions to which only the rightful owner will have the answers.

If you know anyone who was in Mexico during May or June of 2019, and you think that they might have lost a camera like this in a cenote near Playa Del Carmen or the area to the south, please share the video with them so that they can have a look.
