CNN reports France reached its highest temperature ever on Friday during Europe's intense heat wave.
The mercury reportedly reached 45.1 degrees Celsius before 3 p.m. in Villevieille.
This is 1 degree higher than 2003's previous record.
Authorities have taken steps to ensure the people's safety this year, as 14,000 people died in the 2003 wave.
About 4,000 French schools were closed, and the hours of public swimming pools have been extended.
