Blue-Green Algae In Lakes Could Be Deadly For Dogs Unlisted Video

If you are thinking of taking your dog out for a swim in a lake this summer, be careful.
Mother Nature Network reports that blue-green algae, or yanobacteria, often lurks in lakes can be deadly.
The algae can turn lakes into a distinctive green color and producing a thick green scum film that is coupled with "an offensive smell."
MNN explains, "Sometimes blue-green algae also produce microcystins, toxins that can be deadly to dogs, livestock and other animals within hours of contact."
After ingesting the microcystins, the Pet Poison Helpline says that the toxins can spark symptoms that range from eye irritation, drooling, diarrhea, and liver failure to death.
MNN adds, "There is no antidote for the toxins produced by blue-green algae..."
