Mating Dragonflies in a rough-and-tumble affair.

This pair of mating dragonflies use their flexibility and acrobatic skill as if they are performers in a show. Dragonfly sex is a rough affair. Males get scratches, females get bitten. It looks in this video as if the male beats the female into the water. After the mating the female lays or drop her eggs in the water or in living plants. This video is captured in the Oostvaardersplassen, a nature reserve in the Netherlands. The reserve is built on a polder—a type of low-lying land formation reclaimed from a sea or river and protected by a system of dikes—that was created in 1968 and declared as a Ramsar wetland in 1980.
