Swiss women are participating in a 24-hour nationwide protest to highlight the country's poor record on gender equality and the gender pay gap. On average, in full-time employment, Swiss women earn 19.6% less than men. According to CNN, the movement includes women from trade unions, feminist groups and women's rights organizations. As a sign of solidarity, some parliamentarians joined the strike, while other MPs wore purple which has been designated as the official color of the movement.
