This is the moment an ultra rare white squirrel was spotted pinching peanuts from a garden bird feeder.

Fran McGarry, 58, spotted the snowy creature munching away in the grounds of her cattery in the village of Peasedown Saint John, Somerset.

Fran believes the squirrel, a local legend in the community, is rarer than a typical albino because it’s eyes are brown instead of red.

The garden, surrounded by woodland, is visited by up to 40 grey squirrels daily and birds such as woodpeckers.

She once spotted the white squirrel, which is “roughly 25% larger than the average”, in the distance - but was taken aback to see it up close at 2pm yesterday (Mon).
