Woman begged surgeon to amputate her leg

A mum-of-two who suffered years of pain after accidentally dropping a perfume bottle on her foot had her leg amputated by surgeons after begging them to remove it.

The seemingly trivial injury caused Gill Haddington's right foot to swell to twice its size, develop sore ulcers, turn in to the left and her toes curl underneath.

The pain in her foot was so intense she would go to A&E screaming in agony and, after two years, she begged doctors to amputate her leg.

Now she is finally pain free after having her right leg removed below the knee.
