Booksmart is one of the best-reviewed films of 2019.
The movie holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, according to Uproxx, it earned $8.7 million over its four-day opening weekend.
The movie came in sixth place behind fellow new releases Aladdin and Brightburn.
That’s despite director Olivia Wilde’s call to arms against the “big dogs out there” and a major marketing push from Annapurna Pictures.
The film is an indie, going up against blockbusters. Under those circumstances, is the Booksmart a bomb?
Yes. The movie is being written off as an unmitigated box office bomb.
How disastrous was the film's opening?
Booksmart's abysmal box office returns generated headlines with the word “bombed” and “failure” and “goes unread” in them.
