Jack is a therapy donkey who has a soft spot, as well as a talent, for people. He had a happy home with a loving family and he was treated like a true member of that family. But, when there was a split at home, Jack found himself in need of a new home. He found his way to a magical farm called The Mane Intent, in Indian River, near Peterborough, Ontario.

The Mane Intent is a quiet and beautiful place where true magic happens. People come here to learn about themselves, about leadership and building relationships, and also to heal after traumatic experiences. Many people who come here are victims, or people who need a little help processing and coping with something painful. Veterans and first-responders also benefit from working with Jennifer Garland and her herd. The horses at The Mane Intent all have unique personalities and skills that help them bond and connect with people and then lead them towards understanding and healing.

Jack has fit in beautifully at this farm and his playful and affectionate personality makes him a true asset to the team. You can't help but be touched by this lovely little donkey's desire to be close to people. And Jack truly loves affection, as if maybe he could use a little support himself. Viviane has worked at this farm and has also brought her skills and talents to help those who come here. She has been training and studying in Germany, as well as Canada, and her insight and ability to connect with people has made her an asset to the team as well.

Viviane and Jack can be seen in this video, enjoying a little quiet time, just relaxing on a warm spring evening. Jack approached Viviane for a little ear scratch and he quickly became completely mesmerized as she found his itchy spots. This sort of interaction between people and animals requires trust and communication. Even though Jack isn't actually working at the moment, it clearly demonstrates the therapeutic effect for both people and animals in an exchange such as this. Viviane is truly touched by how Jack is completely lost in the moment, closing his eyes and showing pure bliss.

Learning to understand subtle body language and non verbal cues is part of the benefit of interacting with these gentle souls, and spending more time with them makes this easier.

Jack's lower lip has completely relaxed and it sways back and forth as his head moves. His eyes are closed and his head slowly lowers, as if he is falling asleep. Jack is enjoying this moment as much as Viviane is.
