'Star Trek 2009' Writer Said It Was Leonard Nimoy Or Bust

Comicbook.com reports the Star Trek reboots film franchise began 10 years ago with "Star Trek", directed by JJ Abrams.

The script starred a young Spock, but intended an important role for the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy.

Nimoy’s Spock is sent into the past, being chased hunted by the Romulan Nero.

But the writers confirmed the entire plot depended on Nimoy’s willingness to play the character again. There was no plan B.

Nimoy died of complications from COPD in 2015.
