New research shows that children with inflammatory bowel disease are more likely to develop cancer later in life. According to UPI, patients showed a 2.5 times higher risk of developing cancer if they had ulcerative colitis before they turned 18. The new study published Thursday in Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics also showed that participants who had ulcerative colitis as children also had a 3.7 times higher risk of dying from the cancer.
