According to Reuters, the S&P 500 suffered its third worst day of the year.
By the closing bell on May 7th, the benchmark index was down about 50-points, dropping 1.7-percent, and falling below the 2,900 mark.
That marks the S&P's third biggest daily percentage drop of 2019.
Crude oil prices also fell on the day, dragging on the S&P's energy sector, which lost six-tenths of a percent.
But the S&P's consumer discretionary sector led losses, with Amazon and Facebook trading lower.
