Reuters reports Iraq is getting close to signing a $53 billion, 30-year energy agreement with Exxon Mobil and PetroChina.
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi confirmed the news Tuesday.
He denied it had anything to do with U.S. newly granting permission for Iraq to do business with Iran.
The Prime Minister said Iraq expects to make $400 billion over the 30 years of the deal.
The project involves developing the Nahr Bin Umar and Artawi oilfields.
