This is the incredible moment a 21-year-old man was saved by the Indian doctors after being impaled by a metal rod that pierced right through his brain in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, Central India on Wednesday (10th April).

Sanjay Bahe was constructing a well all by himself in order to cut costs of labourers when the mishap unfolded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Nagpur soon after the incident.

In spite that he was impaled by the metal rod, he remained conscious and oriented all throughout his journey of 150 Kms from Balaghat to Nagpur in Maharashtra.

Bahe who is a farmer said that the lower portion of the well was complete but the iron rods were yet to be removed.

As he stood on one of the rods, the rod broke and collapsed and he fell on one of the rods that entered through his right side and came out of the left side of the head.

One of the rods pierced his right hand too before he came to the bottom of the well.

After being taken to the Neuron Hospital in Nagpur in Maharashtra, India. Dr. Pramod Giri Neurosurgeon of the hospital and his team took charge of the case and operated Bahe successfully without even having to admit him to the ICU even after the operation.

In the video, the man with the pierced rod in the head is seen narrating his ordeal as to how the incident took place.

Dr. Pramod Giri said, “The rod pierced through the right temporal lobe of the brain and emerged from the left frontal region across the midline.”

“The rod affected some of the brain tissue but luckily that portion may only affect minor issues like seizures and irritability along with some behavioural changes.”

“No life-threatening damage was caused to any part of his brain.”

The doctors have now kept him under observation for a week as the rod that impaled him was rusted and have now kept him on antibiotics to avoid causing meningitis infection.

The doctor said the operation that lasted for one and a half hour required precision and skill as touching the wrong blood vessels could have led him into death.

The doctors first successfully cut open the rods and then later start with the operation. They also had to remove the iron rods that had pierced through his hands.

The patient is doing fine as of now and is awake talking to his relatives and friends.

He also thanked the doctors for saving his life. While speaking to his relative Sanjay Bahe said, “I am very much grateful to the doctors for saving my life. I cannot thank them enough for this.”
