Mamma Bear Encourages Spring Cubs To Cross The Road

The first thing we’ll say is that we love love LOVE this video of a momma bear tenderly encouraging her teeny tiny spring cubs to cross a rain soaked street despite their obvious hesitation. The second thing we’ll say is that it is NOT a good idea to get too close to a momma bear or her cubs, so we certainly hope that the brave soul who shot this was standing a very safe distance away, and that it only looks like he was close thanks to a zoom lens, or some similar technology.Show more

Having gotten that out of the way, this is an incredibly sweet, insanely adorable thirty seconds of footage, and if you’re anything like we are, then your heart will be in your throat right up until the very end when all four cubs make it safely across the road, thanks to their momma bear’s loving and conscientious concern. Shot in Cades Cove, part of the Smoky Mountains National Park, on April 9th of this year, this video—aside from having so much “Awwwwwwwww!” that it shouldn’t even be legal—serves as an excellent reminder to drive with caution, especially when passing through areas frequented by wildlife. That’s a particularly good reminder in the springtime, when so many animals have small young ones that they’re trying to shepherd through potentially threatening terrain—terrain that’s often shared with humans. So keep your eyes on the road when driving through any mountain passes like the one featured here!

Having gotten that cautionary message out of the way, we’ll point out that the beautiful thing about getting to watch a video like this one is that you can enjoy all the close up sweetness of this momma and her wee babies without having to a) get in your car and go out driving yourself, or b) get close enough to said momma and babies to risk invoking this mighty momma’s wrath.
