A former mental health counselor has been charged with s3xually assaulting

A former mental health counselor has been charged with sexually assaulting five young male patients at Hartgrove Behavioral Health Hospital on the Chicago's West Side.

Edmund Rivers, 66, faces multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault for alleged crimes committed between 1996 and 2004 against boys aged 7 to 14.

Authorities say Rivers exploited the children’s vulnerabilities and threatened to sedate them to keep them silent.

The victims first came forward through a civil lawsuit against the hospital. The suspect is now in custody with bond set at $500,000.
