Ever hear of a pyrosome? It's a huge creature made up of thousands of tiny ones

This is a pyrosome, a rare colonial animal made of thousands of tiny organisms linked together in a tube. Pyrosomes are colonial tunicates in the phylum Chordata, filter-feeding on plankton while free-floating; they can reach lengths over 18 meters and produce bright bioluminescence when disturbed, per NOAA Fisheries and peer-reviewed studies in Limnology and Oceanography Letters.
These organisms contribute to marine carbon cycling by vertically migrating and forming "marine snow" upon death, supporting deep-sea ecosystems, though massive blooms have occasionally disrupted fisheries in the Pacific, according to Ocean Conservancy reports.
