Guy Demonstrates What Happens While Biking In A Snowstorm

This hilarious video of a bicyclist wiping out while attempting to ride with traffic in the middle of a snowstorm is both entertaining and also a great reminder of the essential truth of the cautions our moms always used to give us. Things like: Look both ways before crossing. Make sure you have your jacket buttoned before you go out. And, oh yeah—DON’T BIKE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC DURING A SNOWSTORM!

We’ve seen tons of videos and probably a cumulative hundred hours of epic fails in our day, and this one certainly ranks high among them for sheer foolhardiness. Fortunately for the bicyclist—and the people driving around him—it doesn’t appear that anything was wounded except his pride, which we’re sure is still smarting at the thought of having his blunder witnessed by so many.

Still, injured pride is preferable to worse injuries, like broken bones, loose teeth, bloodied limbs, and nasty cuts and bruises. Which is to say that this all could have ended much worse for our intrepid, foolhardy biker, and we’re just glad that it didn’t. And we’ll also admit that we couldn’t help tee-heeing along with the person who shot this video, once it was clear that the wipe out recorded here didn’t result in any lasting harm. Not that we enjoy laughing at the misfortunes of others or anything, we’re not that cruel!

While bicycling is among the best and healthiest forms of exercise a person can undertake, it’s probably most advisable to wait until the weather is warm and visibility is higher than it is here before taking to your two wheels and hitting the streets. And, of course, you should always keep your eye on traffic—because, under normal circumstances, landing off your bike and on your backside directly in the path of an oncoming car is the kind of thing that’s more apt to lead to an emergency room visit than a place in the online video hall of fame.

If you’re sitting in an office right now, bummed out that you have to be there, click the Play button now and remind yourself that, when it’s as freezing as it’s been the last few days, you’re still better off warm and safe inside. As for us, we’re going to commemorate this video—and the biker who brought it to us—by pouring ourselves a steaming mug of hot cocoa. The weather is perfect for it!
