The 17-year-old male suspect is in custody for the shooting at Westfield Valley Fair Mall was already on probation for carrying a loaded firearm earlier this year.

Police say the shooting was gang-related and the suspect targeted an adult member of a rival gang. Two innocent bystanders were also wounded.

An adult woman who was pushing a stroller has been arrested for helping the shooter escape.

During today’s press conference, the San Jose Police Chief and Mayor criticized the lack of consequences for young repeat gun offenders, noting that 44% of recent gang-related incidents in the city were committed by juveniles.
