Paul Gardiner ft Gary Numan - Stormtrooper in Drag (1981)

One of the best tracks from Gary Numan's catalogue. Ahead of its time and written by Paul Gardiner who was the bassist in Tubeway Army. It's from 1981 and still sounds fresh, a bit like 'Private Life' by Grace Jones, Visage's 'Fade to Grey', 'Vienna' by Ultravox or 'Avalon' by Roxy Music ie from the same early 80's groundbreaking Synth Wave genre.

Dance is the fifth studio album, the third under his own name, It is his first release after announcing his retirement from touring in April 1981 (about which he would later change his mind). The album reached #3 on the UK charts, breaking his chain of three consecutive #1 albums.
The album also featured Japan's maestro bass player, Mick Karn and his input on 'A Subway Called You' is absolutely sublime.

Here, Paul Gardiner played synths, Numan played bass. Unfortunately, Paul Gardiner would pass away only three years later from drug overdose and he never really got the wider recognition he so much deserves.
Paul Andrew Gardiner (1 May 1958 – 18 February 1984)
