Planes, Trains & Automobiles follows Neal Page (Steve Martin), a tightly wound marketing executive who just wants to get home to his family for Thanksgiving. His simple New York–to–Chicago flight turns into an escalating nightmare when he crosses paths with the overly friendly, endlessly chatty shower-curtain-ring salesman Del Griffith (John Candy).

After their plane is diverted due to a blizzard, Neal and Del are forced into an unlikely travel partnership. What begins as a simple inconvenience spirals into total chaos as the two men battle delayed flights, burning cars, disappearing credit cards, runaway trains, and every travel disaster imaginable.

Despite Neal’s frustration and Del’s well-meaning clumsiness, their journey slowly reveals Del’s loneliness, big heart, and genuine need for connection. Through their misadventures, Neal learns patience, empathy, and the true meaning of compassion.

The film builds to a heartfelt ending as Neal discovers the truth about Del’s life, leading to one of the most emotional and iconic finales in comedy history.
