🇻🇦🇬🇷🇬🇷 Pope Leo XIV and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople gathered in Nicaea (modern day Iznik, Turkey) to commemorate the 1700th anniversary of the 1st Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D.

The 1st Council of Nicaea saw the creation of the Nicene Creed, the separation from the Jewish calendar by mandating the uniform observance of Pascha (Easter), the elaboration of the early canon law and the anathemization of Arianism

The most famous story about the 1st Ecumenical Council is that of the Bishop of Myra, Nicholas, who slapped Arius' cheek.

318 bishops from all over the Roman Empire attended the 1st Council. The number 318 was chosen as it was the same as Abraham's Household as told in the Book of Genesis
