Jeffrey Carroll on National Guard Attack in DC

The Executive Assistant Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Jeff Carroll, reported that around 2:15 p.m., a suspect opened fire on DC National Guard members who were conducting high-visibility patrols at the intersection of 17th Street and High St. Northwest. After the attack, the guards and other officers in the area were able to respond quickly, subdue the shooter, and place him in custody within seconds.

The injured National Guard members received on-scene care from emergency crews and were transported to a local hospital, where they are currently being treated. The suspect was also taken to a medical facility for care. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
